Bremerton has always held a special place in my heart as it was where I first discovered what would be my life’s passion, music.

More than an
Event Space

Statement provided by the Bremerton NAACP

"The creation of Quincy Square represents far more than a new public space in Bremerton, it is a long‑overdue affirmation of the presence, contributions, and cultural legacy of Black trailblazers who have shaped not only this city but this entire region for generations. For communities that have often been pushed to the margins of civic planning and public investment, Quincy Square stands as a visible commitment to belonging, representation, and shared ownership of Bremerton’s future.

Named in honor of Quincy Jones, an icon whose artistry, innovation, and global influence began right here in Bremerton, the square symbolizes the brilliance that emerges when communities are given room to thrive. For Black residents, it is a reminder that our stories are woven into the fabric of this city, from the shipyard workers who migrated here during World War II to the cultural leaders who continue to build spaces of joy, resilience, and empowerment. Quincy Square acknowledges that history while creating a platform for new generations to express themselves through music, art, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.

For the Black community, the square offers a place where cultural expression is not only welcomed but celebrated. It is a space where families can gather, where traditions can be shared openly, and where young people can see themselves reflected in the heart of downtown. It is a place that honors the original stewards of this land while uplifting the diverse communities who now call Bremerton home.

Quincy Square also represents a shift in how public spaces are imagined. It is a model for what inclusive development can look like, where community voices shape, design, program, and fulfill a purpose. It invites local artists, small businesses, youth leaders, and cultural organizations to activate the space in ways that reflect the full diversity of our city. It creates opportunities for economic participation, cultural storytelling, and intergenerational connection.

At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that Quincy Square is only a step in the right direction. While it symbolizes progress, there is still much work ahead to fully recognize and honor the contributions of underserved community members across this region. True equity requires sustained investment, intentional policy decisions, and continued partnership with the communities whose histories have too often been overlooked. Quincy Square should serve as both a place of celebration and a reminder of a call to action to keep pushing for systems, spaces, and opportunities that reflect the dignity and contributions of all our residents.

Quincy Square is a cultural hub where equity is not an afterthought but a guiding principle. It is a place where Black community members can gather without fear, celebrate without apology, and contribute without barriers. It is a space that says: You belong here. Your history matters. Your future matters. Your voice matters.

From the Mural, Signage and Sculpture of Quincy, the history of the Black community is told in an intentional voice. The signage includes our tribal history for the entire Kitsap Community and beyond. A visit to Quincy Square is more than entertainment, it's an education that you will not find in a classroom.

Quincy Square is not just a destination; it is a promise that has been long overdue. A promise that highlights an inclusive space which uplifts historically marginalized communities and honors the cultural contributions of the underserved community members not only to the city of Bremerton but to Kitsap, Jefferson, and Mason Counties."
